Unbeaten lightweight contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin had the media all to himself after undefeated three-division champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis failed to appear for their grand arrival ceremony at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It is known that Davis is in town and he’s expected to turn up at Wednesday’s final press conference.

Frank Martin: “I’m feeling great. I’m locked in and I’m focused. The goal is to go in there and beat Gervonta Davis. I’m here to take his spot. I’m here for a reason. I’m here to take over…I’m different. I got speed, power, IQ, and really I have it all. You’re going to see. When it’s time to bite down, the world is gonna see…I’m gonna whoop his ass. We have Saturday to show who’s who.”

Also on hand were David “El Monstro” Benavidez and former light heavyweight world champion Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk, who meet in a matchup for the WBC interim light heavyweight title.

David Benavidez:“I’m really thankful for everyone who came out to support, this fight is for you. We’ve worked extremely hard and we’re going for the knockout this Saturday…my plan is to conquer the light heavyweight and super middleweight divisions. Whoever comes to the plate, they can get it. I’m ready to fight whoever and beat whoever.”

Oleksandr Gvozdyk: “I have a lot of experience and I have something to show him…even though he’s moving up in weight, he’s still a big guy. So I’m not thinking about that. I’m expecting him to be in the best shape of his career, just like I am.”

  • I think Tank is one of boxing’s top pfp fighters and is a super-smart assassin in the ring but this no-show bs isn’t a good look for him and is disrespectful to his opponent, the other fighters on the card, and the promotion. It makes me want to root for Frank Martin. I’m fascinated to see how Benavidez does in his 175 lb. debut against a proven ex-champ in Gvozdyk. I expect El Monstro to look impressive and stop Gvozdyk in the middle rounds after some early turbulence. I think Benavidez, provided he’s triumphant, should tell Canelo and his people to piss off and just go for the Bivol-Beterbiev winner because Benavidez is really a light heavyweight at this point who could easily fight at cruiserweight. I actually find the prospect of a Bivol-Beterbiev-Benavidez round robin very mouth watering…call them the Killer B’s of the light heavyweight division.

  • Tank is not a top p4p. He’s not even on my list. The guy has never fought a legit world champion or even been a lineal champ.

  • Boxing is full of divas. After following it for 64 years, and boxing as an amateur, i would shed no tears if it is banned. You got a guy found doped before a match, coming in at 3 pounds over the weight, still allowed to get in the ring and everybody is finding excuses for this cheating germ, that was the same with Margocheata, Canelo, and Vasquez. Now we have this clown, who had ample time to arrive not showing up.

  • The question is: will tank ever fight someone that is at that top of their game? If so, and wins then we can consider him in the p4p. If he follows his predecessor, then there will always be questions. I believe him fighting martin is a step in the right direction. One thing though, his fight with barrios does look bigger if barrios continues to do well at 147. And yes, he should of had his sorry butt at the grand arrival, that’s how you lose fans.
